I have trouble running one of the examples, or I have a question on GT4 and/or WSRF.
As noted in the book, in this case we ask that you please do not send your questions directly to us (the authors). We are not saying this in a mean, unpleasant, green ogre-ish way. We simply believe that it is much more beneficial to the whole Globus community if questions are sent to a public forum, such as a mailing list. That way, more people will be able to help you out, and everyone benefits from the replies to your question.
We suggest you follow these steps if you're having trouble with the book's examples:
Take a look at the FAQs section. Maybe your question is already answered there.
If the FAQs section doesn't help, then a quick look at the official Globus documentation might prove beneficial, specially when dealing with conceptual questions. The official documentation usually provides a more in-depth and technical explanation of certain concepts. You can find links to various documentation resources in the Related Material section.
If the contents of the book website and the official documentation doesn't solve your problems, and you need to address your questions to a living, breathing human being, then you can send your questions to the Globus-Discuss mailing list, where all the Globus gurus hang out. You can find instructions on how to subscribe to this mailing list (you need to be subscribed to send messages) here: http://www.globus.org/toolkit/support.html (this website also lists other forms of Globus support you might find useful). We monitor most of the Globus mailing lists and it is very possible that we will be the first to reply to any questions regarding the book.
A word to the wise: if you're having trouble running an example, and are facing a baffling error message, then make a quick web search on that error message. It is quite possible that someone has already encountered that problem and posted a message to a Globus mailing list. Remember, Google is your friend!
Another word to the wise: if you post a question to Globus-Discuss please make sure to include as much information as possible about the problem you're facing. Short and vague e-mails that simply state "I have a problem in example FOO, the error message says something about BAR. What am I doing wrong???" will usually receive no response, or require several iterations to be solved. When available, send along stack traces, snippets of code related to your problem, etc. If you have time, take a moment to read the (excellent) How To Ask Questions The Smart Way by Eric S. Raymond, which explains how to ask questions in public forums, such as mailing lists.
